Around 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, authorities were dispatched to a car park located between Wakefield Street and Tory Street in Te Aro following reports of a stabbing. The victim suffered multiple wounds to the arm and back and was rushed to hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit and remains in stable condition.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch noted the severity of the injuries, stating the back wounds could easily have proven fatal. “This could have been a homicide investigation,” he commented, underscoring how close the victim was to losing his life.
Investigators have identified several active lines of inquiry and are pursuing all strong leads to identify those responsible. Leitch emphasized that a large number of people were present in the vicinity at the time and urged anyone with information or footage to come forward.
